Our students do not stop learning in the classroom. Several psychotherapies that our therapists use at Red Hawk’s teen therapy treatment center include DBT & CBT. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) helps teen girls with emotional control difficulties. DBT teaches teen girls how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps improve a girl’s moods, anxiety, and behavior by examining confused or distorted thinking patterns. CBT therapists teach girls that thoughts cause feelings and perspectives, which influence behavior. During CBT teen therapy, a girl learns to identify harmful thought patterns. Our treatment center therapist then helps her replace this thinking with thoughts that result in more appropriate feelings and behaviors. Research shows that teen therapy CBT can effectively treat various conditions, including depression, anxiety, and other traumatic experiences.
Equine-Assisted Therapy in the Eagala Model provides a powerful treatment center option for numerous issues. Building influential relationships with the horses help troubled teens learn critical relational skills and tools that promote building healthy relationships with peers, parents, and authority figures. Horses can even read people better than people who study one another. Troubled teens boarding schools therapists at Red Hawk use the experience between an adolescent and the horse to find new ways to provide powerful teen therapy intervention. The communication between the teen and the horse helps girls become self-aware of issues that cause stagnation and confusion. Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy sometimes can reach girls where conventional teen therapy cannot.
Benefits of Equine-assisted Therapy for girls include gaining self-worth and personal integrity, establishing healthy relationships and communication, valuing trust and respect, assessing assertiveness vs. aggressiveness, and learning respect for diversity and individuality. Here, girls can heal from trauma, and discover the value of teamwork and community at our troubled teens boarding schools.
Equine-assisted Therapy at Red Hawk’s treatment center can help a troubled adolescent girl build trust, self-efficiency, communication, perspective, social skills, impulse control, and learning boundaries. Since the horses share similar social and responsive behaviors, girls easily establish a connection with the horse during equine-assisted therapy. As girls learn how to regulate their emotions and take charge of the horse, they gain self-esteem and confidence.
Recreational Therapy forms an integral component of our treatment center. Young women participate in horseback riding, hiking, swimming, kayaking, skiing, sledding, and service projects. Our therapists plan and coordinate sessions for students, knowing how recreational therapy enhances each teen’s counseling experience and ability to change how she thinks and acts. Through recreational therapy experiences, students also build trust with others and relationships while having fun on and off campus as a team. Because staff and students challenge themselves as they ride horses, climb rocks and go skiing or kayaking together, they reveal once-in-a-lifetime experiences and learn important, life-changing lessons. That’s why Red Hawk Academy For Girls offers recreational therapy as well as individual and group therapy at our treatment center.
